President's Message

Greetings fellow historians. Well, September turned out to be a banner month for your society. First and foremost, we now have water at the museum. Last winter, the County turned off the gas before leasing the building to us and all the pipes froze. Thanks to Crestline Plumbing and George Roddick, along with Jeff Malcom of Jeff Malcom Construction, we now have good potable water.

We had a great Lake Arrowhead Home Tour on the15th, when we were asked to be at two of the historic homes where several of our authors manned booths. The following day, our annual Movie Boat Tour was again a sell-out. All in all, your Society netted close to $4,000.00 for the weekend, not too bad!
But now we find ourselves with possibly our busiest month of the year, October. We start out on the 7th with the Crestline Home Tour, “Keys to Our Past” and we will be the featured organization at the San Moritz Club. This is a great event to get involved in and the price is a quite reasonable -  $20.00 for 5 homes.

The following week on Saturday, October 13th, is your Society’s biggest Fund Raiser of the year, our 2nd Annual Apple Festival and BBQ at The Lost Ranch (formerly known as Squint’s Ranch), 2 miles north of Lake Arrowhead. This will be a “banner” event literally, as the Duane Banner Family is again sponsoring The Mill Creek Boys, a blue grass extravaganza during the day. On top of all the apple games we have planned, an apple dessert contest is being sponsored by Vineyard Bank with a prize of $100.00 to the best apple dessert on the mountain. Last year’s winner was Cindy Darling from the Lake Arrowhead Chamber Office.
On top of all this, there will be an antique fly-in with several planes and a radio controlled demonstration by the Top-O-the-Mountain RC Flyers. Western dress is encouraged and high carriage vehicles are best for this road. If you need a ride, call and we will try and accommodate as many people as possible in other cars at the beginning of the road. Call (337-5850) for reservations and information.
We end the month as we do traditionally, with a Masquerade Ball at the Club San Moritz on Friday night, October 26th at 6:00 PM. AND -- Elvis has been invited back!! Call Jim Huff for reservations and details (338-0225). Whew! GO ROWHS!!
